Candlelight Vigil — In Honor of All Impacted by ICE

Sunday, July 19 · 8:00 PM
Mahoning County Jail · 110 Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44503

Join the Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters for a candlelight vigil outside the Mahoning County Jail. We're standing in solidarity with the people detained inside — and with everyone who has been detained, deported, disappeared, or killed by ICE. They are our neighbors, our coworkers, our kids' classmates. People with names.

We will light candles. We will hold a moment of silence. We will speak their names, and refuse to let them be forgotten.

Six years after the passing of Congressman John Lewis, we carry his charge forward: silence in the face of injustice is its own kind of violence. Sunday night, we will not be silent.

What to know

  • Please arrive by 7:50 PM so we can begin together. Look for the MVFF banner.

  • Bring a candle if you have one — we'll have extras.

  • Bring your own lawn chair if you'd like to sit. No seating will be provided.

  • Parking: use the lot next to the jail or street parking on Wood Street. Please do not park in the jail's parking lot.

  • All are welcome.

This is a peaceful, prayerful gathering — a vigil, not a confrontation.

Hosted by the Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters in partnership with Good Trouble Trumbull and Youngstown Solidarity. Part of the national Good Trouble Lives On Weekend of Action, July 17–19.

Good Trouble Lives On is a non-partisan weekend of action. We require that participants commit to not advocate for, endorse, or oppose any political candidate or ballot initiative. A core principle behind all Good Trouble Lives On events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
