What is a zine?

  • A zine (pronounced "zeen") is a handmade, often photocopied, miniature booklet or magazine.

  • They are a form of self-publishing, allowing individuals or groups to share their unique ideas, stories, art, or activism.

  • Zines are often associated with DIY culture, punk, feminist, and activist communities as a radical alternative to mass-produced media.

What is a public interest zine?

  • A zine focused on issues for the well-being of all people, rather than just individuals or specific companies.

  • These zines are a tool for information, education, and activism, helping to raise awareness and create change for social justice and community well-being.

  • They provide a platform to challenge mainstream narratives and give a voice to perspectives and issues often overlooked by traditional media.
